KRUG
There is something almost paradoxical in the fact that a sculptor—a person who works with matter, weight and permanence—chooses emotion as his primary theme. Hrvoje Dumančić does not resolve this paradox; rather, he deepens it. Through the body of the horse, a motif to which he has remained faithful from the very beginning, Dumančić builds a bridge between the tangible and the unspeakable, between form and feeling, between the moment and eternity.
In his recent cycle Circle, that bridge takes on a new geometry. The circle here is not merely an artistic choice—it is neither a stylistic exercise nor a formal experiment. For Dumančić, the circle is the fundamental pattern of nature and life. The sun, the planets, the passage of time, even the wind—all gravitate toward the circular form, a form in which there is no hierarchy, no competition, where every point is equally important and every ending is simultaneously a new beginning.
